Alibaba Unveils Open-Sourced AI Models Equipped with 7 Billion Parameters

E-commerce and tech giant Alibaba Group’s subsidiary, Alibaba Cloud, has taken a major step that can contribute more to the AI Sector.

Qwen-7B and Qwen-7B-Chat are the two language models in AI that will soon be Open source, according to the firm. The strength of the model is measured by the number of parameters in it. Each of the models used by Alibaba has & a billion parameters.

Alibaba is the first Chinese firm to release its updated LLM and it requires license from businesses that has monthly active users of more than 100 million.

The firm has announced that the code, model weights, and documentation for both models are free only for researchers and commercial institutions.

This announcement comes after the launch of Meta’s open-sourced model called Llama 2. Meta stated that its model was built using 40% public data as it is easy for Meta due to their millions of users. The firm also said that Meta was built on 70 billion parameters. It also requires licenses from companies with over 700 million monthly active users.

China is continuously competing with the U.S. in the AI sector. China has always supported tech companies in their region to adopt the latest technologies. Huawei and Tencent are great examples that have developed their own AI which is controllable. These tech companies are competing with u.s based companies fiercely.
